When Ifeanyi T. Obinali, a Nigerian born dreamt of migrating to the U.S. to pursue a better life, it sounded more like a pie in the sky. Having decided to chase his dreams, he fought all the odds to land on the shore of his dreams in 2008. To his dismay, what awaited him in New York City was not as gleeful and easy as he had envisioned. “It was a big cultural shock” Mr. Obinali said.

After three days of lodging at the YMCA for $37 per night, with barely $170 in his pocket, Ifeanyi ended up living in the New York City subway for months, while looking for a job and eventually started working as a security guard, even though he never liked it.

Having worked as a security professional for various security organizations, and quickly ascending to various operations and management roles, Obinali quickly learned the importance of security and the ever growing need for individuals, businesses and governments to protect important assets and maintain a secure environment for staffs, visitors and the general public. His passion for acting lawfully in direct defense of client life and property spurred the inception of LEAD Security Group.

Recently, we collaborated with a prominent shelter agency funded directly by the department of homeless services to redefine their security strategies for optimal results. After nearly 2 years of contracting another company, they were ready to let them go because of their poor services and LEAD Security alongside other security contractors were invited to bid.

LEAD Security Group participated in the pre-bid meeting and interviews with other contractors and described in detail how it was strategically focused on installing checkpoints around the facility – providing real time feedback of security officers patrols as they check and scan the checkpoints, incident reporting, clock in and clock out data. It recommended also installing security cameras at every critical location to monitor security guards’ activities, with live monitoring and video connected directly to the LEAD Security office command center where a 24/7 dispatcher views all officer activities, uniforms, and behaviors onsite at no cost and charge to our clients.

Excited by the new patrolling concept, the client entered a one-year contract with LEAD Security Group. Under its timely supervision, LEAD Security efficiently demobilized potential threats and provided constant physical presence within and around the facilities, safeguarding their site and neighborhood from crimes. After the successful completion of the oneyear contract, the client entered into ten more patrolling agreements with LEAD Security Group for its various other facilities and locations.

With numerous similar successes under its belt, LEAD Security Group is ideally positioned to make a difference in the security landscape with its efforts diverted toward a sustainable future. Working on a sustainable plan for the future means we have to think on how best to add our own quota to saving our planet. Considering that gas vehicles are heavy pollutants of our environment and our ever-growing reliance on vehicles for effective and efficient patrol of our client’s locations and asset, the LEAD Security team is making a conscious effort geared towards migrating to e-vehicles for patrolling. This “think green” choice helps us, because it minimizes the overall maintenance cost of our patrol vehicles, compared to gas-powered vehicles and most importantly, helps provide high-quality, cost-effective services for clients.

For 2023 and beyond, LEAD Security plans to establish itself as a go-to partner for security services in 25 to 30 more states across the U.S. by the end of 2023. Recalling its humble beginnings, these achievements are the results of Obinali’s strong will and perseverance.
